I

t was a night of music, dancing and dining — and the chance to honor two of
Temple Kol Ami's brightest stars. About 160 people gathered at the West Bloomfield
temple's social hall May 15 for "Dancing With Our Stars:' an annual gala and tribute
dinner honoring longtime members Terry and Marty Hollander of West Bloomfield.
A program book filled with well wishes for the couple includ-
ed congratulatory letters from Gov. Jennifer Granholm, U.S.
Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and other
local leaders.
"We are so thankful at Temple Kol Ami for the Hollanders'
participation, support, leadership and friendship:' said Rabbi
Norman Roman. "In elected and volunteer positions, as ushers
and greeters, as (shleppers' and workers, as advisers and represen-
tatives to the community, Marty and Terry both serve us well."
Terry is president of the Metro Detroit Federation of Reform
Synagogues, serves as a regional and national board member of
the Union for Reform Judaism and is on the boards of several
other Jewish organizations.

Marty is an executive board member of the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit, co-chair of the JCC Stephen Gottlieb Music Festival and a past co-chair of the
JCC Lenore Marwil Film Festival. He's also a past Southfield city councilman and council
president, a member of the board of directors of the Oakland County Business and Finance
Corporation and past chair of the Oakland County Economic Development Corporation.
A pre-glow reception with the honorees featured wine and hors d'oeuvres followed by a
strolling dinner, silent auction, raffle and dancing.
"The Hollanders are role models for other members of the congregation, bringing dig-
nity and responsibility to their actions as committed, liberal Jews:' said Rabbi Norman.
"They share their wisdom, energy and love for culture throughout Metropolitan Detroit?'
Event co-chairs were Nena Chudnof and Dana Patchak, both of West Bloomfield;
silent auction co-chairs were Jody Schottenfels of West Bloomfield and Connie Silver
of Bloomfield Hills.
Spotted in the crowd were: Mary and Norm Keane, Joan and Herb Conroy, Leslie
and Norman Bash, Sallyjo and Barry Levine, all of West Bloomfield; Sandi and Steve
Matz of Franklin; Leslee and David Magidson of Bloomfield Hills; Art and Nancy
Rose of Rochester; and Nancy and Paul Gross of Farmington Hills.
