The American Jewish Committee-
Detroit Regional Office in Bloomfield
Township will present the Institute
of Human Relations Distinguished
Leadership Award to Eugene A. Gargaro
Jr. at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at the
Townsend Hotel, Birmingham.
Gargaro chairs the Detroit Institute
of Arts board as well as the Citizens
Research Council of Michigan. He led
the DIA through a period of transition
and transformation, working in tandem
with the museum's professional leader-
ship to implement a $160 million reno-
vation and expansion.
Gargaro is a board member of the
University of Detroit/Mercy, the Detroit
Medical Center and New Detroit.
The awards event will feature Jason
Isaacson, AJC's director of office and
government and international affairs.
His talk, on "Building Diplomacy
Through Arts and Culture,' will focus
on his and his office's work with the
Egyptian government to preserve,
protect and rehabilitate the historical
Jewish community properties in Cairo.
