Front Lines JEWISH RENAISSANCE DIGEST DETROIT JEWISH NEWS I, theJEW1SHNEWS.com Advertising Sales Freud Exhibit At Library Of Congress S igmund Freud's discover- ies about the unconscious mind have had a major influence on Western thought and have permeated contemporary culture. Sigmund Literature, film, and Freud language reflect this impact. His development of psycho- analysis contributed an essential method for the understanding, treatment and research of psychological disturbance as well as providing the major cohesive theory of the mind. Sigmund Freud Archives (SFA), a non- profit organization, is dedicated to mak- ing available for scholarly use Freud's psychoanalytic and personal papers, his correspondence, photos, etc. The collec- tion, comprised of 80,000 items acquired by SFA from Freud's daughter Anna, was given to the U.S. Library of Congress for preservation and is today one of its prized collections. In conjunction with the 100th anniver- sary of the International Psychoanalytic Association and the 100th anniversary meetings of the American Psychoanalytic Association, SFA is organizing an exhibit of Freud's documents to be displayed at the Library of Congress manuscript divi- sion in Washington, D.C., June 5-13. Deanna Holtzman, Ph.D., is president of SFA and past president of the Farmington Hills-based Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute. She was the first non-medical, Dr. Holtzman American-trained Ph.D. to be president of an institute of the American Psychoanalytic Association. Holtzman is a clinical professor, Department of Psychiatry, Wayne State University School of Medicine, and adjunct professor of psychology at the University of Detroit Department of Psychology. ❑ EC0 1 ,__ Judaism What you can do to stop global warming. Our JN Mission • For larger gardens, consider drip irrigation or grey water systems. • Limit use of power mowers. • Refuel power equipment in cooler weather or during the cooler part of the day. • Grass roots grow to the same depth as the height of the grass blades. For a healthier, weed-free lawn, maintain at least a three-inch blade height. The grass shades itself, preventing weed growth. • Once cut, leave grass clippings on lawn for nutrients. Or add lawn clippings to compost. • Plant trees to absorb CO2 and to provide shade. • Plant fruit trees and organic gardens. • See creative recycling garden tips at www. brighthub.com/environment/green-living/ articles/22910.aspx. "No shrub of the field was yet in the earth and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth and there was not a man to till the ground; but there went up a mist from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground." — Genesis 2:5/6 Please contact Michigan Coalition on the Environment & Jewish Life for global warming presentations: (248) 642-5393, ext. 7, or mi-coejl®jfmd.org .
