Tal Siegmann and his son, Amit T he Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit has hired Tal Siegmann as the new director of Center Day Camps, based in West Bloomfield. Siegmann, of Oak Park, has an extensive history in camping, includ- ing serving as assistant director of the Grand Resort Family Camp in Cheboygan in 2003 and 2004 and with the Jewish Community Center camps in Columbus, Ohio. A professional woodworker, he also served as artist-in- residence at Oakland County-based Tamarack Camps and as artist-in- the-schools for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education. Siegmann, who has three children, says his goal with Center Day Camps is to pro- vide campers with a "Wow!' experience. "I want every child to go home and count the hours until he or she gets back to camp',' Siegmann said. Siegmann wants to focus on conti- nuity. "Children should look forward to returning to camp every year as campers, then as leaders in training, as junior counselors and finally as staff;' he said. "Camp is an amazing place, like nowhere else on earth, and I want to make certain that each child has a chance to experience that" The Israel native holds a bachelor of arts degree from Tel Aviv University and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Ohio State University. A former lieutenant in the Israel Defense Forces, he worked as a counselor for children with special needs in Ohio and as a guest teacher at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Indiana. "Tal's enthusiasm, energy and strong desire for excellence are already evident in the short time he has been here said Dave Stone, JCC associate executive director. Judah Isaacs is director of Federation's Alliance for Jewish Education which, along with the Fresh Air Society, supervised the Grand - Tal Sieqmann Resort Family Camp. As assistant direc- tor of the Family Camp, Siegmann was involved in all the intricacies of camp life, from making families feel welcome and pampered to mak- ing sure the plumbing was working, • Isaacs said. "His experience at the Grand Resort will help the Center Day Camps continue its long legacy of premier camping for the families of our community:' Isaacs said.
