so that their needs could be at
the core of the workshop. After
another month spent research-
ing and designing, I finally
delivered it to a very excited
group of 20 of my cowork-
ers. After two full days, I was
drained but thrilled by the par-
ticipation of the group and the
many moments that make it all
worthwhile for a facilitator.
In the next few weeks, I
will revise and turn over the
Facilitator's Handbook, the fruit
of my labor, to our NGO with
the hopes that they will be able
to use it for the capacity build-
ing needs of other local organi-
zations.
In the past few months, Kate
has been able to use her proj-
ect management experience to
document the successes of a
scholarship program for a group
of young girls in the village
we visited. The program has
kept these girls in school and
impacted their lives in so many
substantial ways. Kate's final
deliverable will allow our NGO
to expand and enhance this pro-
gram as they take her writing
back to their funders and other
NGOs doing similar work.
Of course, our time here in
India has been about so much
more than work. On Passover,
our seder was shared with
friends and strangers. As we sat
together in a small apartment
in Delhi enjoying a delicious
mango charoset and matzah
baked in the ovens of a Mumbai
synagogue, I realized that I
would be adding this to the
list of memorable and mov-
ing Jewish experiences that I
have had, most of them, outside
of a synagogue — specifi-
cally, Havdalah with my friends
among the crags of Kentucky
and an oneg Shabbat under a
tarp in the Rocky Mountains.
We have been exception-
ally thankful to AJWS for this
experience. As we wrap up our
time in Lucknow, I realize that
we came expecting to give, yet
walked away with so much
more.
