Heartwarming Story
Your cover story "Rare Reunion"
(April 22, page 14) details the
incredible story of the recent meet-
ing of Rabbi Leo Goldman and Anti-
Defamation League national direc-
tor Abraham Foxman after more
than 60 years. While their encoun-
ter so many years ago was fleeting,
it left an impression on Mr. Foxman
that shaped his very identity and
was pivotal to his very meaningful
life's work.
I am delighted by this story. Like
many others who had reason to fre-
quent the Oak Park JCC during the
period of time that Rabbi Goldman's
shul operated from humble quarters
there, I was occasionally called upon
by the rabbi to assist in making a
minyan.
Just as the rabbi's celebratory act
inspired Mr. Foxman, his "tenacious
encouragement" to perform the
mitzvah of making a minyan lifted
me and taught me much about the
power of an individual to be an
important part of his community.
There is no doubt that the kind
and grateful soul that I beheld is the
exact same one that left its indelible
mark on Mr. Foxman.
Rabbi Goldman is a dedicated
and sweet man. How wonderful to
read your article and learn of this
inspiring story and his consistency
of character over the years.

Teen-Senior Connection
The J-Serve project experience at
American House-Regent Street
Assisted Living held April 25
was an incredible gift ("Serving
Together,"April 15, page 20). The
teens that participated in the activ-
ities seemed to possess an innate
ability to relate to seniors.
They immersed themselves into
the event and made a beautiful con-
nection with Regent Street residents.
We felt so fortunate to have been
chosen to by Michelle Chekan of
Jewish Senior Life of Metropolitan
Detroit to participate in this com-
munity outreach opportunity!
