Finding Peace
It would be wonderful to be healthy
and strong toward the adversity our
Jewish people face every day — and to
live in a peaceful world.
It is true the world is aggravated
(and inspired) by we, the Jewish
nation. The Arab nation is espe-
cially annoyed by us on a daily basis.
However, the Arab nation's treatment
of us is not our problem, but our
symptom. The treatment toward us
results in anti-Semitism in our face
especially when we are complacent.
When we are busy contributing to
each other's health and wellbeing,
anti-Semitism is dormant.
This is an age-old problem and
well documented in the Torah — and
documented on the Internet today.
There are numerous cases, too many
to mention here, to substantiate this
claim. When we are kind and loving,
we are not belittled. When we become
arrogant, this is when we get into trou-
ble. We, the Jewish nation, are subject
to the laws of cause and effect just like
everyone else.
We have the power to make our
world great. Individually, it is a real
challenge to make a difference, but not
impossible.
Here is a possible solution: Each one
of us pitches in daily. Call it mitzvahs,
good deeds, common courtesy or what-
ever else fits into the Jewish psyche.
There are 613 different things to do
for a reason. God knows fully well that
we all are not going to do every one of
them. So pick one or more daily that
makes you feel like you are contribut-
ing toward our world.
A couple ideas: visit a sick friend
or relative; volunteer at a shelter, food
bank, JCC or YMCA. Give a bag of
clothes or chachkas to someone in
need. Give to your favorite charity.
You also can have a conversation
with God, taste a new kosher product,
light Shabbat candles, call your rabbi
to learn how to put on tefillin, make
your own challah, attend a Kabbalah
class, listen to Jewish music, gossip
less — and be a great role model for
your children and your parents.
Add to your daily routine and we,
the Jewish people, will have peace.
