Innovation Nation
Ann Arbor's 6th annual Celebrate Israel salutes Israeli innovation.
Ann Arbor
I
srael has more companies listed on
the NASDAQ than any other foreign
country and boasts the largest num-
ber of startup companies per capita in
the world.
The Ann Arbor community will gather
to celebrate Israel's 62nd birthday and to
applaud Israeli innovation from 12:30-
3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at the Jewish
Community Center of Washtenaw County.
This event brings together representa-
tives from greater Ann Arbor's Jewish
communal organizations to conceive,
program and implement a joyous cel-
ebration of Israeli innovation, creativity
and culture for more than 600 celebrants
of all ages.
As in previous years, participants
will enjoy Israeli dancing, tasty Israeli
street food and top-notch entertainment.
Opening and closing ceremonies featur-
ing Temple Beth Emeth's Shir Chadash
and Ann Arbor's own Ricardo Seir will
take place at 1 and 3 p.m.
There will be fun Israel-themed activi-
ties for the entire family, a children's
carnival and a shuk (marketplace) with
Israeli merchandise. This year's theme:
Innovation Nation will offer new twist to
programming with a puzzle station, other
hands-on activities and displays of some
of the inventions that have come from
Israel's hi-tech and green-tech industries.
For the third year, Ann Arbor will host
a delegation from its Partnership 2000
community, Moshav Nahalal. The delega-
tion will develop a special exhibit focus-

ing member of the Tamarack Hills
Authority; later, Michael served as
president of the Fresh Air Society from
(1983-1985). He continues to be an
active participant in board initiatives,
particularly fundraising.
Donna and Michael attend Bubbie-
Zaydie Family Camp with their grand-
children, who will soon be Camp Maas
campers, too. Their son, Marty Maddin,
is a current Tamarack Camps board
member.
The Butzel Conference Center, built in
1970, was established for Jewish seniors
and corporate groups. In the early
1970s, Donna and Michael noticed the
community needed a place for Jewish
families to spend quality time together
in an enriching Jewish environment.
They brought a family group to the
Butzel Conference Center, beginning
the popular Family Camp program that
today includes Bubbie-Zaydie Camp and
New Year's Family Camp.
Tamarack Camps was established by the
Fresh Air Society more than 100 years ago.

'Send A Kid To Tamarack'
Annual Campaign Starts
Donna and Michael Maddin will receive
the "Send a Kid to Tamarack" award on
Thursday, April 29, at Tamarack Camps'
annual patron event. The event will kick
off the 2010 "Send a Kid to Tamarack"
Annual Campaign.
As a youngster, Donna attended Camp
Tamarack as a financial aid camper.
She was delighted that many years
later, ending in 2008, she served on the
agency's board of directors. Similarly,
Michael grew up with Tamarack. His
father, Milton Maddin, was a found-
ing on innovation in Israel's agricultural
sector.
Entry to Celebrate Israel is $5 per indi-
