World is the premier fundrais-
ing event for Sisterhood of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Founded in
1964, this event is a tradition that draws
more than 700 women annually.
The Woman's World
2010 luncheon and
fundraiser will be
from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Wednesday, May 5, at
Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, 27375 Bell
Road, Southfield.
Gloria Allred
This year's keynote
speaker is Gloria
Allred, an internationally recognized
attorney and advocate for justice and
equality, described by Time magazine
as "one of the nation's most effective
advocates of family rights and feminist
causes." Allred has devoted her career to
fighting for civil rights across boundaries
of gender, race, age, sexual orientation
and social class. She will speak at noon.
After the luncheon at 2 p.m., attendees
can meet Allred in person and purchase
a signed copy of her book, Fight Back
and Win: My Thirty-Year Fight Against
Injustice — And How You Can Win Your
Own Battles.
The recipient of the annual sisterhood
Woman of Valor Award, presented dur-
ing the luncheon, is Shirley Ruzumna, an
honored sisterhood member.
"The Sisterhood of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek provides our synagogue
with a sense of community in all that
we do:' said sisterhood president Jeri
Fishman. Each year, we help fund many
of the congregation's building and edu-
cation initiatives as well as the Women's
League for Conservative Judaism, Jewish
Theological Seminary and other vital
projects. Three percent of all event pro-
ceeds benefit Mazon, a Jewish Response
to Hunger."
