• Betty Provizer Starkman has
been active in the Jewish commu-
nity since 1944. She is a member
of Shaarey Zedek, and she was
instrumental in the creation of
American Magen David Adom for
Israel. She's held memberships in
ORT and Hadassah, and has also
worked extensively with the Jewish
Historical Society of Michigan, of
which she was a founding member.
She's a renowned genealogist who
established the Jewish Genealogical
Society of Michigan. Betty served
on the Anti-Defamation League for
more than 20 years. She is modest in
her accomplishments and has gladly
accepted each responsibility.
• A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Harvey
Weisberg has been an integral
part of numerous Jewish causes for
decades. His support and leader-
ship have added positively to the
State of Israel, Federation's Annual
Campaign, the Anti-Defamation
League, Federation's board of gover-
nors and the Friends of the Jewish
Theological Seminary advisory
board. He's a member of Shaarey
Zedek and was significant in the
development of the Arab American-
Jewish Friends Committee. He has
put great effort into interfaith rela-
tions, bringing diverse religious
groups together to find their com-
mon ground with his unique voice
of reason and diplomacy.
• A veteran of the U.S. Army, Leonard
Trunsky is a beloved member of
Temple Israel in West Bloomfield.
He is a board member of the Jewish
Community Relations Council of
Metropolitan Detroit and formerly
was on the local Ecumenical Institute
board. He has been invited to public
and private schools to teach students
Judaism and about World War II. For
years, he tutored children through
Jewish Family Service. He also has
been a docent at the Holocaust
Memorial Center. Those who know
Reservations are required for the
event; limited seating. Brunch by
Quality Kosher Catering is part of
the admission. Adults are $80; chil-
dren 12 and younger are $40. Sherry
Margolis from Fox2 News will be the
emcee.
