Kadima helps
change the lives
of our clients.
From our history
of working
with adults, our
programming has
nowgrown to also
include services
to children. The
Jewish Fund
responded to Kadima's request for
funding with a generous three-year
grant that secures our ability to open
our Child and Adolescent Program.
This program is providing individual,
family and group treatment, a parent
support/advocacy group, respite
services, social and recreational
activities, case advocacy and crisis
intervention for children, 8 - 18 years,
who are diagnosed with serious
emotional and behavioral disorders and
their family members.
While the communi looks to Kadima
to meet the needs of children and adults
with mental illness, we find that many of
our clients are discouraged by the level
of stigma they face every day.
One misconception of mental illness
is that those who suffer from mental
illness are dangerous; this could not be
further from the truth. Awareness and
knowledge are basic to understanding
mental illness. While advocacy has
grown, stigma remains in the form of
rejection or fear; some even think it best
to isolate these individuals rather than
integrate and accept them as human
beings who happen to have a disability.
Our clients each have a face and
a personal story and many of them
work very hard to be integrated and
connected in our community. They
are an inspiration of survival while
coping with a major disability. Help us
embrace Kadima clients and others with
mental illness and stomp out stigma!
"I LOVE MY HOME; I LIVE INDEPENDENTLY; I WALK TO THE GROCERY STORE
AND THE BARBER; I BUDGET MY OWN MONEY" — KADIMA CLIENT.
RECENTLY I META FRIEND AND WE TALKED ABOUT WHERE WE EACH
LIVED. I, BEING PROUD OF MY LIVING SITUATION TOLD HER. ABOUT
KADIMA. SHE CAME OVER TO THE HOUSE (KADIMA GROUP HOME)
AND MET MY ROOMMATES. I DIDN'T FEEL THAT I HAD TO HIDE
ANYTHING SO I ENDED UP EDUCATING HER ABOUT MY MENTAL
ILLNESS. WE ARE STILL FRIENDS AND I FEEL ACCEPTED" — KADIMA CLIENT.

Kadima's residential group housing program provides a safe environment for more than 100 clients. Kadima
clients experience dignity and acceptance; they are welcomed and integrated into neighborhoods and have a sense
of acceptance in contrast to the stigma they may have encountered in the past. Family members have peace of mind
knowing their loved ones are safe and secure. Family members know their loved ones will live at Kadima as long as
they need our services and that we will tailor our programming to meet the needs of our aging clients.
Our twenty-five homes are located in Southfield, Oak Park, Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield and are staffed
with professionals who are trained and caring. If you are interested in helping Kadima provide lifelong services for
our clients, please contact Janette Shallal, Executive Director, 248.559.8235, extension 110 or kadimaplus@msn.com
to become part of our permanent legacy giving program.
