walks for Project Chessed. In that one
walk, you will be helping our uninsured
friends and neighbors who face all three
of these situations.
This week, Project Chessed enrolled
its 1,000 participant. Yes, there are now
1,000 uninsured members of our com-
munity continuing to access health care
through the Chessed network of donated
services coordinated by this unique
program of Jewish Family Service of
Metropolitan Detroit (JFS).
That's not the whole story. Since this
access to care network began 5 1/4 years
ago, the staff of Project Chessed has
connected 3,000 individuals to needed
care and is enrolling 15 new participants
each week. All of these individuals have
neither health insurance nor the ability to
pay for their own care, including needed
prescription medications.
In the words of people who have
accessed care through Project Chessed:
• "After losing my health insurance, I
did not know where to turn. I feel grate-
ful that a program like Project Chessed
exists in my community. Thank you."
• "The program is exceptional and
beyond any expectations I had. The pro-
viders are professional and empathetic.

SOIREE
COLLECTION

An elegant
combination of bold
lines and curves,
the Soiree Collection
exudes true American
luxury. Reward
yourself by creating
a personal space that
makes a bold,
dramatic statement.
Sophisticated design
and unparalleled
performance are the
hallmark of the lavish
Soiree Collection.

Thank you for helping me get back on
my feet during this time of upheaval."
Project Chessed provides a needed
safety net for those whose lives have
been turned around by the economic
downturn. Even with the new health
insurance reform package, benefits for
the uninsured are delayed.
Advisory Council Chair Karen Sosnick
Schoenberg said: "The effects of the new
legislation won't impact our community
before 2014. Until then, we anticipate
that the numbers in need of access to
care will continue to increase."
Project Chessed is a partnership
between JFS and major area hospitals
that have together donated $13 million in
care for the program participants. These
partner hospitals are: William Beaumont
Hospitals, Botsford Hospital, Detroit
Medical Center, Henry Ford Health
System, Karmanos Cancer Institute,
Providence St. John Health, St. Joseph
Mercy Oakland and Straith Hospital.
The "Walk for Project Chessed" will
begin at 1 p.m. with sign-in beginning at
noon on Sunday, April 25, at the Orchard
Ridge Campus of Oakland Community
College (enter on Farmington Road,
south of 12 Mile), Farmington Hills.
Walk sponsors, as of April 10, are:
Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohen,
William Beaumont Hospitals, EHIM,
Detroit Medical Center, Henry Ford
Health System, Detroit Jewish News,
Jaffe Raitt, Oakland Community College,
St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, Ben Teitel
Charitable Trust, Beverly Hills Health and
Racquet Club, Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Michigan, Sandy and Jim Danto, David
Horodoker Organization, Fifth Third Bank,

Prescriptions.
To register to walk or make a donation
to Project Chessed, go to www.walk-
forchessed.org or call the walk registrar,
Linda, at (248) 592-2318. Each step you
take will bring an uninsured person a
step closer to needed health care. Ell
