RABBI JENNIFER KALUZNY MIRIAM AND JACK SHENKMAN THE SHENKMAN FELLOW FOR 2010: RABBI JENNIFER KALUZNY OUR THANKS & APPRECIATION TO JACK & MIRIAM SHENKMAN FOR THEIR VISION AND GENEROSITY IN CREATING THE JACK & MIRIAM SHENKMAN CAREGIVING FELLOWSHIP TEAM FOR THE JEWISH HOSPICE & CHAPLAINCY NETWORK. THIS MULTI-YEAR GIFT IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING CONTINUING EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR THE FINEST HOSPICE CAREGIVERS TO HELP ENSURE NO JEW IS EVER ALONE. Rabbi Kaluzny is the youngest member of the Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network's rabbinic team and brings a personable, vibrant perspective to caring for the sick and dying. After a personal experience with hospice prior to the death of her beloved aunt, Rabbi Kaluzny made the decision to make pastoral and end-of- life care a central part of her rabbinate. As a hospice rabbi she provides spiritual guidance for patients and their families, assists with medical issues as they pertain to Jewish tradition, and provides a comforting presence for patients and caregivers alike. Rabbi Kaluzny, a pulpit Rabbi at Temple Israel, joined the JHCN rabbinic team in 2001 and was recently awarded a Jewish Women's Foundation grant to support her work to aid women in hospice and palliative care settings. Rabbi Kaluzny is utilizing her year as a Shenkman Fellow to hone her profes- sional caregiving skills and continues to offer spiritual comfort to the sick and dying. She advocates and provides a Jewish presence for patients and their families as JHCN's representative to DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, Henry Ford Health System's West Bloomfield campus and offers care to individuals affiliated with Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. She also serves on JHCN's chaplaincy team for Shalom Providence in Southfield. M/RIA SHENKMAN CAREGIVING FELLOWSHIP TEAM CARING COALITIN i The jEwisHosPicE & CHAPLAINCY NETWORK - April 15 • 2010 29
