The gathering point is the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. The teens will take part in a host of volunteer activities, including cleaning up a south- west Detroit garden plot for the greening of Detroit, continuing renovations on the Downtown Synagogue, working on various projects with area seniors and JARC residents and much more. J-Serve 2010 will engage youth from all denominations within the Jewish community in meaning- ful projects to teach them the value of tikkun olam (repair of the world), the Jewish call to action. Teens will start their day with a kickoff program to introduce the participants to their peers and inform them about the importance of their volunteer efforts. Buses deploy the teens to their chosen work site, accompa- nied by youth professionals and adult volunteers. The program will conclude with a short debriefing session back at the JCC. J-Serve, an annual program for Jewish youth throughout the world, is part of Global Youth Service Day, a national day of ser- vice for teens from all faith com- munities.
