The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's 59th annual
Jewish Book Fair is seeking local
authors for Nov. 3-14.
Authors may be residents of
Michigan or Michigan natives now
living elsewhere. Books may be
on any subject, for any age group,
published in 2009 or 2010.
Authors will be invited to make
brief presentations and autograph
their books at the annual Jewish
Book Fair, held in West Bloomfield
and Oak Park.

Financial Aid Meeting
JVS will host a parent informa-
tion meeting about the Jewish
Educational Loan Service (JELS)
and additional financial aid options
for college students. It will be
held 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, at
the JVS Rose and Sidney Diem
Building, 29699 Southfield Road,
Southfield.
Dr. Marvin Berman, JELS coor-
dinator, will discuss how to apply
for an interest-free loans offered
through JELS financial assistance
through federal, state, institutional
and private sources.

'Gypsy - Punk' Concert
Eugene Hutz, the Ukranian
guide Alex, in the Holocaust film
Everything is Illuminated, is the
lead singer of the gypsy-punk band
Gogol Bordello at the Royal Oak
Music Theatre on April 21.
Though not Jewish, Hutz has
many Jewish connections, includ-
ing a side project: the Jewish
Ukranian Freundschaft, featuring
Israeli beat master Oren Kaplan, a
Gogol Bordello member as well as
other Jewish and Israeli members.
Also performing will be Jesse
Malin. His most recent album
featured a duet with Bruce
Springsteen as well as an appear-
ance by Jakob Dylan.
Rounding out the bill is
DeVotchKa, a four-piece multi-
instrumental and vocal ensemble
from Denver that fuses Romani,
Greek, Bolera and Mariachi music
with American punk and folk roots.
Like Gogol Bordello, their music
was featured in Everything is
Illuminated.
All tickets are $25 for general
admission.
