ADL PRESENTS FORMER SKINHEAD FRANKIE MEEINK
Thursday, April 22, 7:30 p.m., Holocaust Memorial Center, West Bloomfield

Meeink will discuss his book "Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead," which is a raw
telling of his descent into America's Nazi underground and ultimate triumph over hatred
and addiction. It starts with his violent childhood in south Philadelphia where he is primed
to hate; by 18, he is doing hard time in an Illinois prison. Behind bars, he questions his
hatred when his African American football teammates become his friends. The story of
Frank Meeink's downfall and redemption has the power to open hearts and change lives.
Come and listen to a truly inspiring story. There is no charge for this event, but an RSVP
is required to Iruf@adl.org or bkellman@adl.org or (248) 353-7553.

As a researcher associate at Innovative

Biotherapies, I am responsible for
developing a bio-artificial kidney.

What do you wish Southeastern Michigan could offer and what changes would you like to see happen here?

More networking and collaboration amongst established business owners and entrepreneurs. I would actually love
to see a Chamber of Commerce or an association for Jewish businesses, which would provide tremendous alliances
amonost the local Jewish business community.

What do you like about living Jewishly in Southeastern Michigan?

I love being a part of a congregation like Temple Shir Shalom [in West Bloomfield]. My wife, Hope, and I have been at-
tending services there ever since we were married eight years ago. We have grown as a family with the shul and have
made some fabulous lifelong friends.
The Temple recently added The Corners, a multicultural center that offers fabulous events and learning for children
and adults, It has been a tremendous addition and I have enjoyed taking my 3-year-old daughter, Eliza, there.

Do you volunteer; if so, in what way?

I try to volunteer as much as I am able. I think its an important part of giving back to the community in which you live.
Currently, I am on the board of directors of Akiva Hebrew Day School [in Southfield] and was recently asked to join
Yad Ezra's marketing committee. I also have many local nonprofits as clients that I offer a reduced rate and pro-bono
work for, including: Operation: Kid Equip. Detroit College Promise. Cornerstone Schools and Covenant House Michigan.

What is your line of work? Do you feel Southeastern Michigan has provided you with sufficient work
opportunities?

I own my own public relations company that is focused on helping small- to medium-sized businesses raise their
visibility with local, trade and national media along with the communities they serve.
I feel very fortunate to be so busy, but I think local businesses can't rest on their laurels and must find opportunities.
It's those who are finding the opportunities. versus waiting for them, who are ultimately succeeding.
