Pappas has many years of experi- ence as an early childhood and elementary school educator, includ- ing as a preschool teacher and director Robin Pappas of a childcare center. She most recently worked with the Head Start Program in the Detroit Public Schools. Before that, she taught at Congregation Shaarey Zedek of Oakland County's Beth Hayeled preschool. "We were impressed with Robin's deep understanding of child develop- ment, her years of experience and her philosophical approach to early child- hood education:' said Steve Freedman, head of school. She has experience in the classroom and as a supervisor Medical Forum Theme: Stem Cell Research The Jewish Parents Institute and the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit will host "Science, Ethics, Questions and Hope: A Forum on Stem Cell Research" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. This communitywide forum, moderated by Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner, will examine the political, scientific, legislative, economic and ethi- cal issues surrounding stem cell research. The panelists include Ellen Cogen Lipton, state represen- tative of the 27th district; Ed of other teachers, developing effective teaching strategies within a sound, but progressive curriculum. Like Hillel's K-8 program, the ECC will offer a warm, nurturing and sup- portive environment with the advan- tage of being part of a K-8 school. The Hillel ECC will benefit from a math specialist, a science specialist, a Jewish studies director and a Hebrew language coordinator as well as the support of the school's other teachers and administrators. In other ECC developments: • Hillel has hired its first full-time early childhood educators, Helayne Shaw and Barbara Dworin. • Congregation Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield has joined Congregation Shaarey Zedek in collaboration with Hillel's ECC. Hillel will serve as the early childhood center for both syna- gogues, with the close involvement of rabbis from both congregations. • For the 2010-11 school year, Hillel's kindergarten tuition will be set at $10,000 per student, discount- ed from the full tuition of $16,140. For families enrolling their children in the Hillel Day School ECC for the 2010-11 school year, an equivalent percentage discount from the full tuition will be guaranteed when the child completes the preschool program and transitions into Hillel's kindergarten.
