Now, they're focused on the future. The NCJW Greater Detroit Section recently started a new young women's branch called "Next Generation" to attract tomorrow's leaders who will carry on their mission. About 60 young women attended a kickoff program March 16 at the Bloomfield Hills home of Jessica Woll. "The Greater Detroit Section is thrilled with the addition of our new branch': said NCJW president Cathy Cantor of West Bloomfield. `As Next Generation targets its programs and projects toward younger women and their families, it will serve to enhance and improve what we already do in Metro Detroit!' The NCJW is currently in the pro- cess of redesigning and re-branding its thrift shops located in Berkley and Royal Oak. They accept donations of designer clothing, housewares, furni- ture, jewelry, books, and accessories, which are sold at discounted prices. The local chapter's volunteers also staff Bookstock (April 18-25 at Laurel Park Place Mall in Livonia), read to elementary school children and provide help for job seekers along with other programs and support groups. Next Generation's first initiative will involve the Royal Oak-based group Common Ground, which provides 24-hour assistance and shelters for children, adults and fami- lies in crisis. "NCJW's faith in the future and belief in action are reflected in our mis- sion statement': said Cantor. "Involving younger women as volunteers is an important step in secur- ing our future." Spotted in the Next Generation crowd were: co-chairs Jessica Woll and Allison Parr, both of Bloomfield Hills; Kim McColl and Karen Kelman, both of Farmington Hills; Jody Boorstein of Birmingham; Wendy Hamburger of Franklin; and Jody Kaufman, Debbie Steinberg, Francine Newman, Josie Ryke, Lisa Findling, Jodi Michaelson and Ellen Berlin, all of Huntington Woods. ❑ 28400 Southfield Rd.
