he Jewish Theological
Seminary Great Lakes
Region and the Michigan
Rabbinical Assembly will co-spon-
sor a pre-Passover study with
Professor Burton Visotzky, 3 p.m.
Sunday, March 21, at Congregation
Beth Ahm, 5705 West Maple Road
in West Bloomfield.
Visotzky has
titled his remarks
"Tidbits for Your
Seder: Legends
NOT in the
Haggadah."
He will explore
how aggadah
Burton
and midrash have
Visotzky
enriched out
understanding of
this central ritual of our tradition.
The program is free and open to
the community. No reservations are
required.
Visotzky serves as the Nathan
and Janet Appleman Professor of
Midrash and Interreligious Studies
at the Jewish Theological Seminary
in New York, where he joined the
faculty upon his ordination as rabbi
in 1977. He has served as a dean of
the Graduate School, as the found-
ing rabbi of the egalitarian worship
service of the Seminary Synagogue
and as the director of the Louis
Finkelstein Institute for Religious
and Social Studies at JTS.
With Bill Moyers, Visotzky devel-
oped 10 hours of television for PBS
on the book of Genesis, serving as
consultant and a featured on-screen
participant. The series, Genesis: A
Living Conversation, premiered in
1996.
He was also a consultant to
Jeffrey Katzenberg of DreamWorks
for the 1998 film Prince of Egypt.
He is the author of nine books
and 100 articles and reviews.
