Southeastern Michigan offers the sense of community that I wasn't finding elsewhere. I moved back to Detroit in 2007 after several years away in New York and Los Angeles. In those cities. the Jewish communities were huge. I felt like a very small piece of a large entity. When I moved back, I jumped right in with Federation's Young Adult Division, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). JARC. Hadassah, bar nights. temple groups, etc. I feel like I'm a part of something very important and have a wonderful network of people looking out for me. How would you describe your social life now that you are back in Southeastern Michigan? There's a great social scene in Southeastern Michigan and I'm always keeping busy. I'm fortunate to have a number of friends who have moved back or who still live in the area. I have good friends here that I've known my entire life: and I've reconnected with several people who are back and met many new people. too. The city needs to appeal to more young people. So many people move away after high school and college. We are losing smart. talented young adults to other cities. We need to find ways to keep young adults and families here and attract back those that have left. People also need job opportunities or they will relocate. Do you volunteer? I'm involved with Federation's Young Adult Division (YAD) and went to Israel on their Young Adult Mis- sion. This year. I'm helping lead the Entree program. I'm also active with Anti-Defamation League activities, including the Sills/Glass Leadership Program. and volunteer with JARC and Hadassah. I feel strongly about giving back to this community and credit this enthusiasm to my father, Fred Marx. riesayAraiia6- YAD EZRA'S ANTE UP FOR HUNGER Saturday, March 13, 8 p.m. " Berkley-based Yad Ezra's annual Texas Hold'Em Tournament raises revenue for Yad Ezra's Lunch Assistance Program.
