The history of Detroit Jewry is
something for all of us to take
tremendous pride in; it is now up
to our generation to lead. For over
a century, our community has been
blessed with active, passionate
and generous individuals and our
impact is felt not only locally. but
indeed globally. I am proud I'm a
Jewish Detroiter because it
conveys a tradition of committed
community involvement.
I returned to Detroit after seven
years outside the Midwest in part
to continue the Safran family
legacy of community
involvement. My father has led a
variety of key organizations, and my
grandfather Hy Safran was a pillar
of the community. Carrying on his
name is something I take seriously.

What do you wish Southeast-
ern Michigan could offer and
what changes would you like
to see happen here?

What is troubling is the lack of
enthusiasm many people have
for our community. Whether its
political advocacy, volunteer
projects or a day at the ballpark,
the under-40 crowd of Jewish
Detroit should be socializing with
one another much more often and
be proud to live here.

spend your free time?
