That's True, But •

As president of Hebrew Free
Loan and a longtime advertising
and marketing professional,
Peggy Daitch has been instru-
mental in bolstering Hebrew Free
Loan's public image and helping
the agency establish innovative
loan programs, especially for
women borrowers.
"Hebrew Free Loan is doing
everything it can to empower
women who are frequently left by
themselves with overwhelming
financial responsibilities," Peggy
says.
To meet the needs of local
Jewish women who have financial
burdens, Hebrew Free Loan has
established the Building My
Tomorrow program, a no-interest
loan initiative with substantial
support from the Jewish
Women's Foundation.

When we make loans to women,
we help stabilize more than
the borrower: we help her
children, her family and
our entire community.

Hebrew Free Loan provides inter-
est- free loans for tuition assis-
tance, rent and many other
financial needs: living expenses,
medical expenses, training,
small business start-up costs,
and much more. If you or
someone you know needs

One must be very careful in talking to
children, those destroyers of rules. For a
really good example of this, read Please
Don't Eat the Daisies by Jean Kerr. When
expecting company, she had told the kids
not to use the guest towels, not to mess the
living room pillows, not to track mud in
on the carpet. She neglected to tell them
not to eat the daisies on the dining room
table. Guess what was left of her perfect
flower arrangement — green stems!
There are some cynical people out
there (we know who we are, don't we?)

Quotable

"We need Jewish leaders who
are female, gay, black and
Asian. This is our community
now. The face of the Jewish
community is literally
changing more and more
each year; and the leadership
needs to reflect these changes.

"Frankly, the Jewish
communal world needs to be
shaken up. Now is the time to
do it. ... It is time to turn in a
new direction, take some risks
and open our community to
new ideas. I am confident that
we will benefit."

What you can do to stop global warming.

Reduce Heating Costs

• Turn your thermostat down 2 degrees in winter. For every 2°F you
lower your thermostat, you save 2 percent on your heating bill. Be
sure to lower the thermostat at the end of the day. A programmable
thermostat can be set to do this for you.
• Lower the thermostat several degrees when entertaining three or
more guests. The combined body heat will keep everyone warm.
• Whenever possible, heat your body, not your house. Use heavy quilts
on your bed. Wear sweaters and warm socks around your house. You
will be much warmer for less money.
• Keep closet doors closed. There is no need to heat storage spaces.
• Heat-producing fixtures and appliances may cause your thermostat
to keep your home uncomfortably cool. Place lamps, TV, etc., at least
three feet from the thermostat.

Jewish Thought On The Environment

"Finding God in nature" can be a deeply Jewish experience. This isn't
some "new age" fad. It's an ancient Jewish practice. Jewish liturgy
is infused with descriptions and images of nature as an expression
and embodiment of the Divine. Yet for more than a thousand years,
Jews–even Judaism itself–have been distant from nature.

"never," just remember what you say may
be true, but ... E
