Pioneer In Physical Medicine

D

r. Lewis Cohen, 91, of
Southfield, died Feb. 4, 2010.
He was a physiatrist, special-
izing in physical medicine.
Always interested in numbers and
the sciences, Dr. Cohen planned to
become a physician from a very young
age. After receiving his bachelor's
degree in 1938 and his medical degree
from the Ohio State University in 1942,
he completed an internship at Jewish
Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., in 1943.
Shortly thereafter, he joined the
United States Army to serve as a bat-
talion surgeon and rose to the rank of
captain. The majority of his service
took place in Italy and near the end of
the war in April 1945, Dr. Cohen par-
ticipated in a Passover seder organized
by the Jewish Brigade. This was an
experience that he enjoyed describing
throughout his life.

JERRY BRENNER, 82, of West
Bloomfield, died Feb. 9, 2010.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Sandra Brenner; son, Marc Brenner of
Tucson, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law,
Julie and Brian Unatin of Huntington
Woods; brother, Morris Brenner of
Farmington; grandchildren, Jared and
Kara Unatin; many loving nieces, neph-
ews, other family members and friends.
Mr. Brenner was the loving grandfa-
ther of the late Ryan Unatin; brother of
the late David (the late Jean) Brenner;
brother-in-law of the late Rebecca
Brenner.

and grandparents of Caitlin (Joseph
Malcoun) Klein and Julia Klein.
Dr. Cohen was the brother of the late
Dr. Benjamin Cohen and the late Lil
Abramson.
Interment was at Adat Shalom
