Dr. Elford did not remem- ber the last time he laughed that hard. His family was delighted to see so many residents attending. Ella Baker Her dream took place on Jan. 20. Ella, 86, a resident at the Park at Trowbridge in Southfield, was granted her dream of a behind-the-scenes tour of the PBS/ Detroit Public Television studio in Wixom. DreamCatcher Leah Bisel found that when visiting Ella, PBS continually came up in conversation. Ella rarely watches TV, yet follows PBS very closely. Study Scholarships The Zionist Organization of America— Michigan Region's Israel Scholarship Program is now taking applications for the 2010-2011 school year. The scholarship is aimed at students who are interested in pursuing serious study in Israel at an accredited college or study program (recognized by MASA). ZOA-Michigan Region is proud to award scholarships to outstanding students who express Zionist ideals and a dedica- tion to Jewish values and identity. Students are required to complete an application, an essay titled "What the State of Israel and Zionism Means To Me," and to submit letters of recom- mendation from a rabbi and Jewish educator. Also on tour with Ella was Leah Bisel, DreamWeavers co-chair Jill Margolick and Lindsay Dembs of the DreamWeavers steering committee, who, with her sister Ashley Oleshansky, is writing a book about all the dreams that DreamWeavers is granting. Daniel Alpert presented Ella with a gift from Detroit Public Television. Ella was delighted with her afternoon, say- ing that it was beyond her expectations. Appelbaum, who runs the Applebaum Training Institute, has more than 30 years of experience working with children.
