Ethiopian Feast

Authentic tastes make Blue Nile a 25-year success story.

W

hen a nation has been in exis-
tence for thousands of years,
25 would seem like a tiny
speck in a mound of sand ... But for him,
his successful presentation of its food, no
matter how long, is enough to bring satis-
faction to many.
Seifu Lessanework
is celebrating the 25th
anniversary of his Blue
Nile Ethiopian restau-
rant on West Nine Mile
Road, Ferndale, with

... Being a true native,
Seifu, an Ethiopian Jew, has lived with that
ethnicity and knows well its dining likes
and dislikes.
There are few culinary experiences bet-
ter than ethnic dining — and having the
true and original food of that society from
someone who knows it best is a tremen-
dous realization.

and the induction of fresh cooked veg-
etables into much of its preparation.
In the 25 years, Blue Nile, formerly 18
years in Greektown's Trapper's Alley, Detroit,
and the past seven in Ferndale, is estimated
as serving more than a million people ...
Going through about 100,000 pounds of
beef, almost 200,000 pounds of chicken,
close to 100,000 pounds of lamb, etc.
Seifu recently returned from a three-
month tour of Ethiopia where he collected
