Picano's marks 25 years of delicious service in Troy.

OTPOURRI
Many will remember his little
restaurant that was popular from
1964 to 1984 ... Dominic Picano's Greg's
Pizza on Livernois and Six Mile Road,
Detroit, would today fit into one of his
four rooms that total around 250 seats.
The city of Troy was still growing up
when Dominic bought the property in 1978
upon which, seven years later, he opened
his fine Picano's Italian Restaurant on
Rochester Road.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary,
Picano's, open seven days a week, is
another of those types of neighborhood
restaurants where people enjoy the clean
atmosphere and on-the-spot cooking
... Like its premises-made pasta whose
authenticity is notable in large-selling
dishes like the capellini con fruitte di mare
with shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops
and calamari tossed with angel hair ...
Also the polo siragusa with its angel hair
pasta mixed with julienne chicken breast
sauteed with jumbo shrimp, toasted pine
nuts, plum tomatoes and scallions ... Or if
desired, the pollo da vinci, chicken breast
strips sauteed with mushrooms and arti-
choke hearts with homemade fettuccine
and a garlic Alfredo sauce.
A large favorite among lovers of Italian
dining who look for dishes that bring out
wanted authenticity is Picano's veal sca-
loppini that Dominic's mother made back
home in Italy, veal cutlets with white wine,
lemon, artichokes and mushrooms in a
light garlic sauce.
Picano's has made its mark as far more
than just another Italian restaurant ...
Along with achieving a coveted destina-
tion distinction, its honoring of 25 suc-

cessful years is added proof of
much dining acceptance.

caps of restaurant owners who are
looking for big things happening
this year in the dining game.
Joining the list is Jim Pappas,
who is expected to take over the
former Tom's Oyster Bar on East
Jefferson, Detroit, and put in a sec-
ond Pegasus Greek restaurant ...
His original Pegasus is on Monroe
in Greektown, Detroit ... Jim also
has his sights on a Novi locale.
His Pegasus ambitions join the low-
priced, upscale Mykonos Greek Taverna
slated to open on Northwestern Highway,
Farmington Hills ... If Jim finds a Novi
spot, having both Pegasus and Mykonos
in the northwest sector of the Detroit area
for authentic Greek dining would be a first
hereabouts in quite a while.
IT'S BACK TO American dining as the
sixth restaurant takes over in the free-
standing site on Orchard Lake Road, south
of 14 Mile, Farmington Hills ... The newly
opened Ram's Horn follows former eateries
Ground Round (American), Lone Star Steak
House (American), Tira-Misu (Italian),
Blue Sky Deli (Jewish) and Pars (Iranian).
A MULTI-TALENTED gal is Dolores
Cymerint ... After five years as a pre-
school teacher at Temple Israel, she is
now a much-requested server among
those at the new RJ's American Grille,
Northwestern Highway, south of 14 Mile,
Farmington Hills ... The daughter of
Phyllis and the late Donald Soltz shows
off many reasons for her bright smile,
personable ways and efficient quickness
... Dolores' husband, Jeffrey, is the son

me of my dear little red Mustang (first
model). I was driving Pat O'Brien back
from a TV station when the muffler darn
near fell off. What to do? I had on a bow
tie but good ol' Pat sacrificed his brand
new, full-length beauty. We both got under
and tied the tail pipe back onto the frame
... Pat than took his sooty-looking black-
ened tie and wrapped it neatly inside his
collar as if nothing had happened.
"Another time says Bill, "Porgy and
Bess was playing in town and I let Porgy,
I don't recall who played the part, drive
the little red Mustang and he bent a
fender coming into the downtown parking
garage. Too much juice on the accelerator
and I suspect maybe in Porgy, too."

blue jeans, and men had to have a suit or

[Yes, but I would prefer to have a true
authority on dressing, someone like Dino
"the Tailor" Mitropoulos, who is called
upon so many times to make celebrities
and prominent folks look good, answer
this often-asked question ... "Business
suits and smart-looking dresses are
always in high style," says Dino, "and very
much looked upon as class. But nowadays,
informal clothes in good taste are cer-
tainly accepted.
