BANKRUPTCY LIQUIDATION

Many Thanks!
Thank you very much for publishing
Rabbi Jason Miller's "The Decade in
Jewish Education" (Jan. 28, page 23),
a collection of the best educational
programs in the past decade. The his-
tory of Jewish scholarship is one of
creativity, innovation and compassion
— all exemplified by the groups and
projects noted by Rabbi Miller.
I was grateful to see Rabbi Miller
praise the concept of inclusion,
and specifically mention Keshet,
the national Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual-
Transgender (GLBT) organization, in
his article.
Like Keshet, the Jewish Gay
Network of Michigan (JGN) is a
reflection of the verse in Bereshit
(Genesis) that all human beings are
created "in the image of God." We are
a safe haven, an advocate, a resource
for all GLBT members of the Jewish
community.
This past year, JGN hosted Rabbi
Steven Greenberg, who is observant
and gay; held a memorial service for
the victims of the shooting at a gay
teen center in Tel Aviv; and hosted
monthly support/discussion meet-
ings for friends and families of GLBT
Jews. Now we're busy planning even
more events, including an extraordi-
nary joint venture for the JCC Lenore
Marwil Jewish Film Festival.
We have also begun having GLBT-
only events, like our recent "Havdalah
Happening" and "Dinner and a Movie
Potluck;' which are held at private
homes of some of our GLBT Jewish
Gay Network members. (As you
would gather, there are folks who are
not yet comfortable with visibility.)
We are actually planning a GLBT-only
Passover seder on March 24 if you
know anyone who would be inter-
ested.
Whether you are GLBT, a friend or
just in need of more information, we
welcome you. And again, our sincere
thanks to Rabbi Miller.

Blog Deemed Propaganda
I just finished your Editor's Letter
"Reforming Health Care" (Jan. 14 page
5). The Jewish Community Relations
Council of Metropolitan Detroit's posi-
tion is commendable. Your reference to
the thoughts on the two bills pending
in the Congress by a Michael Connelly
as those of a constitutional authority
or scholar is not.
His blog is plain political propa-
ganda. Improving health care is of
extreme urgency to protect the sol-
vency of Medicare and the country as
well as for social justice.
I don't have a position on what's
currently under consideration since is
still too amorphous and far from per-
fect. However, much of Mr. Connelly's
writing is opinion of what might hap-
pen to senior citizens, for example, of
which I'm one, under some proposal
that might become law. It has nothing
to do with the Constitution.
When he refers to constitutional
matters, he is just another Texas law-
yer and he is commenting as if the
meaning hadn't changed much since
ratification in the 18th century. If he
could miraculously be right, women's
right to vote, abolition of racially sepa-
rate schools or ending slavery could be
unconstitutional.

• The headline of "At The Helm" (Feb.
4, page 19) should have stated that
Michelle Passon is the new volunteer
chair of the Hermelin ORT Resource
Center in West Bloomfield.

• A caption with "A Team Effort" (Feb.
4, page 14) should have stated that
Jane Rosett, 7, of Birmingham, below,
is Oakland County Circuit Judge's
Edward Sosnick's granddaughter.
