Friendship Circle

W

ord that Friendship Circle
is in the running for a $1
million prize — through
the Chase Community Giving Challenge
— has created a chain of group e-mails
that have been forwarded. The hope is
to inform the public to vote online for
the Chabad-run
nonprofit, which
provides assis-
tance and support
to children with
voTEFccc,,,
special needs and
their families.
"There are a lot of us who are con-
tacting everyone we know, whether
they live in the Metro Detroit area or
anywhere else in the country, or world,
for that matter," said Marc Manson of
Farmington Hills, who with his wife,
Marcia, is a supporter and volunteer at
Friendship Circle of Michigan.
An earlier vote put the group among
100 top charities, allotting it a $25,000
grant. Now, the top 100 are compet-
ing for Chase Bank's big prize, given
to the charity garnering the most
votes. The only Jewish contestant, West
Bloomfield-based Friendship Circle was
created in 1994 and is directed by Rabbi
Levi and Bassie Shemtov. The concept
has spread to more than 80 other loca-
tions worldwide.
As of print time, Friendship Circle
was in ninth place; voting ends at 11:59
p.m., Friday, Jan. 22. To vote, access the

We answer the call.

Economic conditions in our community are causing
untold hardship for people who never thought they'd
be in need of help.

Three ways to give now:

This year, our agencies are overburdened with requests
for help, and we simply cannot let them down. So, we
turn to you.

The Answer
Throwing stones from a glass house
are the Saudis, 15 of the 19 terror-
ists on 9-11 were Saudis; the regime
continues to fund radical imams and
schools. In addition, oppression of
women is rampant in the kingdom.
