Arlene Frank is among those being feted at the Celebration of Strength on Thursday, Jan. 21. Arlene Frank earned the Heart of Haven Award. She is coordinator of the Womencenter at Oakland Community College, where she creates and directs programs on a variety of topics of con- cern to women. Along with other projects, she directs the college's Sexual Assault Awareness program, Assault Prevention and Self Defense program, SAFE on Campus program and Back to School day. She regularly speaks to college lasses on domestic violence. She serves on the board of directors of the National Council of Jewish Women/ Greater Detroit Section, currently chairing the Teen Dating Abuse Awareness Project. In addition to the individual awards, two corporations, Chrysler Financial and Verizon Wireless, will be recognized at the event for their support of Haven's mis- sion and messages.Verizon also funded an instructional video for children titled Daisy Tells A Secret and Chrysler Financial was pivotal as a supporter of HAVEN's annual fundraiser, Promenade of Hope. Toys For 'Kids' Bloomfield Hills-based Hillside Furniture participated in its annual December charity event that benefited Kids Kicking Cancer. When customers made a purchase, they received a con- siderable discount in exchange for an unopened children's toy valued at $10 or more. Almost 100 toys were donated.
