ARCHIE SOLOM, 93, of Farmington Hills,
died Jan. 4, 2010.
He was the co-owner of Harold Paper
Company.
Mr. Solom is survived by his sisters and
brother-in-law, Beverly Swartz, Temmy
and Leo Berg, Marjorie Wetsman; nieces
and nephews.
He was the beloved husband of the late
Bessie Solom; the dear brother of the late
Harry Solom, the late Ben Solom and the
late Edith Solom.
Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Hadassah,
5030 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield,
MI 48323. Arrangements by Ira Kaufman
Chapel.

ETHEL STEINMAN, 97, of Bloomfield
Hills, died Jan. 7, 2010.
She was a graduate of Northern High
School and Wayne State University and
was longtime assistant to Benjamin
Pelham, Detroit politician and news-
paper publisher. She was also a former
regional manager for Greater Detroit

Chapter-Hadassah, transcriber for Braille/
Michigan, member of the Heart Core of
friends for over 80 years and a co-founder
with her husband, David, of the Sol
Needleman Foundation.
Mrs. Steinman is survived by her
sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and
Barbara Steinman of New York, Ken and
Fran Steinman of Birmingham; grand-
children, Rachel, Susan, Joshua and Amy
Steinman; brother, violist, David Schwartz.
She was the beloved wife of the late
David Steinman, founder of Walker
International; loving sister of the late Lillian
Schwartz Gold and the late Rosalee Scott.
Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Talon was the dear daughter of
the late Morton Gilbert.
Interment at the Adat Shalom

noted outside southeast
Asia, last week Indonesia
lost both a towering spiritual leader
and the father of the country's increas-
ingly vibrant and robust democracy,
former president Abdurrahman Wahid
— affectionately known there as Gus
Dur. But his death will also be felt
widely outside Indonesia.
Among many others touched by this
brilliant Muslim cleric-turned-cam-
paigner for human rights and prin-
cipled politician, both the Jewish world
and Israel have lost one of their great-
est friends in the Muslim world. I had
the good fortune to befriend this his-
toric figure and was deeply honored to
have met with him several times over
