Quiet Celebrities
You run a weekly column in your
Arts Sr Entertainment section called
"Celebrity Jews." I read it with some
mild interest and I sometimes discover
someone I never would have thought
was Jewish, or partially Jewish, to be a
landsman.
It started me thinking that we Jews
have had equity positions in many
industries, but the entertainment
industry stands out. Many Jewish
composers, actors, comedians, writers,
etc., have made their mark.
Unlike blacks, Hispanics, Asians and
others who have always looked at news-
paper ads, TV spots, catalogs and other
mass media in order to see if there is
diversity and representation, we Jews
usually watch the credits of a movie or
TV show to count the number of Jewish
names that are writers, producers,
directors and maybe even actors.
I have never looked at an ad for
Target, Macy's, Sears or any other mass
retailer wondering why there are no
Orthodox rabbis shown wearing their
fashions or using their products, or
kids getting bar mitzvahed, spinning a
dreidel, etc.
Just testimony, I believe, to the fact
that we Jews are very integrated and
assimilated into our American cul-
ture — and we don't make a big deal
about it.

Danger Of Radical Islam
Thank God there was a happy end-
ing to the Dec. 25 attempt to blow up
a Northwest Airlines jet near Detroit
with almost 300 people on board. But
it points out the fact that radical Islam
is at war with America and that civil-
ians are being targeted.
Radical Islam is not a religion. It's
an extreme political ideology that uses
monotheism to justify mass murder,
territorial expansion, slavery, discrimi-
nation, torture, crime, immorality,
oppression and intolerance. The goal
is world domination and an end to
all religions except their version of
Islam. Believers will kill anyone stand-
ing in their way, including Christians,
Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, atheists and
even non-radical Muslims.
Radical Islamists are a minority in
Islam, but they are the guys with the
guns. They intimidate and frighten the
majority of Muslims into silence and
accommodation.
Radical Islam can and must be
defeated for civilization to survive.
