Complimentary Shuttle Service from your home to our Detroit Restaurant for any group of 10 or more... Anytime in the month of January!!! Good Fortune from page 31 another duality: It would be new and modern, yet voice the hope of thousands of generations: the yearn- ing for peace (many of the chamsahs are decorated with peace symbols or words of peace). Stearn and Levin began by put- ting out a call to artists through word of mouth, Facebook, Craig's List, by posting signs at art supply stores and at colleges, as well as on art blogs. In less than two weeks, the gallery received more than 100 chamsahs. "We heard from all different kinds of people — professional artists, students, even children:' Stearn says. The very first entries offered a glimpse of the diversity that was to come. One chamsah had a marbled design of blues and purples; another pictured a woman in pink, with the chamsah encased in a frame. A third artist sent "a red triptych, with a theme of the burning bush," Stearn said. Among the artists who contrib- uted a chamsah is Abby Stybel of Berkley. "This was an amazing opportu- nity and a great idea for an exhibit," she said. "I loved the idea that every- one received the same blank slate, so to speak, and then we each designed whatever we imagined, using any medium we desired. "I'm just putting the finishing touches on my chamsah and look forward to seeing it at the gallery." All the chamsahs will be for sale, with half of the profits benefiting the gallery and will be on exhibit in both the upper and lower levels.
