Havenwyck. In addition, he was on staff
at Detroit-Macomb Hospital Association
and he was chairman of the Private
Practice Committee of the Michigan
Psychiatric Society. He was also a mem-
ber of the American Medical Association
and American Psychiatric Association for
over 50 years.
Dr. Schakne was a diplomat of the
American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology and a fellow of the American
Physicians Fellowship of Medicine in
Israel as well as a distinguished fellow of
the American Psychiatric Association.
He was honored with the Van Gogh
Award, which was presented for his con-
tribution to the Improved Treatment of
Affective Disorders. His other member-
ships include Phi Sigma Delta, University
of Michigan Alumni, Phi Lambda Kappa
Medical fraternity, Wayne State School
of Medicine Alumni, patron and board
member of the Michigan Opera Theatre,
member of Adat Shalom Synagogue,
Congregation Beth Shalom and Temple

Israel, member of the Morningside
Country Club in California and Tam-0-
Shanter Country Club as well as being a
contributor to many organizations and
charities.
Dr. Schakne is survived by his wife of
55 years, Marilyn Joyce Schakne; daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Robin Beth and
Dr. Lawrence Lash of Farmington Hills,
Susan and Allan Marion of Beverly Hills;
grandsons, Yale Lash and Henry Marion;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George
and Betty Gordon; niece, Rita Gordon.
He was the beloved son of the late
Harold and the late Lee Schakne; the dear
uncle of the late Mark Gordon and the
late Rachelle Gordon; the dear son-in-
law of the late Hyman and the late Yetta
Gordon.
Interment at Adat Shalom Memorial

EDWARD ISRAEL SEID, 76, former
Detroiter and a 27-year resident of Las
Vegas, Nev., died Dec. 27, 2009. Eddie

was born July 21, 1933, to Clarence and
Rebecca "Betty" Seid. He was a veteran
of the Army and later married his junior
high school sweetheart, Mersha 'Mitzi"
Gaum. The 57-year marriage was a testa-
ment to a true love of a "Golden Angel".
He and Mitzi also owned and operated
the very successful Diamond and Jewel
Bakeries, which were well known Detroit
area stops. His love of life and his fam-
ily was extolled in many ways but none
better than to his sons, Richard, Lee and
Bruce, as exampled by never missing
any of their ball games or activities even
if it meant attending during or after an
18-hour work shift. His sons will miss
his constant source of support, strength,
pride and special compassion. He will be
missed as a never ending part of their
"Heart and Soul". Mr. Seid was a espe-
cially generous man whose business suc-
cess was well known by the many chari-
ties he donated to seven days a week with
breads, bagels and sweets.
Mr. Seid is survived by his sons,
Richard Seid (Vicki) of Delray Beach,

Fla., Lee Seid, Las Vegas, Nev., Bruce Seid
(Erika) of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchil-
dren, Josh, Zach, Alex and Blaize Seid;
remembered by Brad and Sean.
Private services were held at South
Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in
Boulder City, Nev. Contributions may be

MERWIN "MERV" SOLOMON,
74, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of
Birmingham, died Dec. 27, 2009.
He is survived by his beloved wife
of 51 years, Roselyn "Roz" Solomon;
children, Michelle and Robert Levine,
Eric and Claire Solomon; grandchildren,
Shaun, Gabrelle, Sarah Grace, Ashlyn and
Connor; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry
and Diane Solomon.
Services and interment in Florida.
Contributions may be made to a charity
of one's choice. This notice was placed
at the request of the family by Dorfman
Chapel.
