New Year, New You

JCC hosts "Healthy U"
devoted to physical fitness.

Every year, the pledge to lose
weight, get in shape and live a
healthier lifestyle tops the list
of the most popular New Year's
resolutions. With that in mind,
the Jewish Community Center in
Oak Park hosted "Healthy U," a
free open house and health fair
at the JCC's fitness center on 10
Mile Road. More than 500 people
attended the Dec. 6 event. "Many
people who live in Oak Park don't
know about the fitness center,"
said Judy Front of Berkley, the
JCC's membership director/sports
manager. "Since members don't
have to be Jewish, outreach is
important." Various speakers and
vendors helped educate partici-
pants about wellness. Some visitors
even worked up a sweat by taking
part in free fitness classes. "It gave
people the chance to try out our
facilities for the day," said Front.
"We want to help members get fit
and stay fit."
