Bloomfield Hills, died Dec. 22, 2009.
She was a co-owner of Joseph S.
Barnett, tax planning and probate
services.
Mrs. Barnett is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and
Edward King of Bloomfield Hills.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Joseph S. Barnett.
Interment at Beth Moses Cemetery.

STEVEN LAWRENCE BEALE, 37, of
Waterford, died Dec. 24, 2009.
He is survived by his parents,
Jerome and Gail Beale; grandmother,
Carmen Friedman of Deerfield Beach,
Fla.; brothers and sister-in-law, Cary
Beale and Dr. Jamie LaPrairie of
Charlotte, N. C., Ryan Beale of Chicago,
Ill.; nephews, Jonah Beale, Jude Beale;
dear ex-wife, Mary Robin Beale; loving
companion, Jennifer Yousif; many dear
aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was the loving grandson of the
late Alvin Friedman.

GERALD C. BELFER, 83, of Grand
Rapids, died Dec. 22, 2009, with his
family at his side.
He served his country in the United
States Navy during World War II and
owned and operated George Belfer
Drum and Barrel Company.
He is survived by his loving wife
of 60 years, Sylvia; children, Karin
(Barry) Steinway of West Bloomfield,
Mark (Nancy) Belfer of Akron, Ohio,
Scott (Nancy) Belfer of Grand Rapids,
Paul (Karen) Belfer of Grand Rapids,
Nora Favelukes of New York City;
grandchildren, Jordon (Julia), Rachel
(Chris), Aaron, Bret, Michael, Doren,
Jared, Jacob, Joshua and Jennifer.
Mr. Belfer was the devoted son of
the late Edith and the late George
Belfer; dear brother of the late Harvey
Belfer and the late Anita Bodner.

PETER BASKIND COPELAND, 84, of
Ann Arbor, died Dec. 20, 2009.
A 1947 graduate of the University of
Michigan with a B.S. in political sci-
ence, he earned the rank of lieutenant,
junior grade in the U.S. Navy, serving
his country in World War II.
Married in 1953, he and Celia
lived in Huntington Woods, then
Birmingham, where they raised their
six children. They moved to Ann
Arbor in 1992. He was president of
Northland Marketing, later, Northland
Consultants, and an avid tennis player
at both the Detroit Tennis Club and,
later, the Huron Valley Tennis Club.
Mr. Copeland was an active board
member of both Temple Beth El in
Detroit and, later, Birmingham and
served on Temple Beth Emeth's Board
of Directors as well.
He and his beloved wife loved to
travel and enjoyed Elder Hostel excur-
sions as well as frequently ushering at
Hill Auditorium performances on the
University of Michigan campus. An
active participant in Osher Lifelong
Learning, leisure reading and lover of
symphonic music, he supported both
the Ann Arbor Jewish Community
Center and the Allied Jewish Campaign.
May his memory be for a blessing.
He is survived by his devoted wife
of 56 years, Celia (Schmier) Copeland;
children, Karen Weinstein of New York,
N.Y., David Copeland of Highland
Park, Ill., Ellen Buchine of Houston,
Bob Copeland of Glenview, Ill., Kathy
Baldwin of Chandler, Ariz.; 13 grand-
children; one great-grandchild.
He was the father of the late
Elizabeth Copeland.
SYLVIA L. DUNITZ, 97, of
Farmington Hills, died Dec. 25, 2009.
She was a graduate of Wayne State
University. She was also a member of
Temple Beth El, Hadassah, Farmington
Hills Country Club, a founding docent
at the DIA and a certified Grey Lady at
Sinai Hospital.
Mrs. Dunitz is survived by her
daughters and son-in-law, Suzanne and
David Tabashnik, Maryann "Mikey"
Greenstone of Bloomfield Hills; grand-
children, Laura and David McMillan,
Eric and Shawn Krause and Aaron
Dunitz Greenstone; great-grandchil-
dren, Sheldon Krause and Kailen
McMillan; other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Dunitz was the beloved wife of
the late Saul G. Dunitz; the loving sister
of the late Daniel Siegel, the late Eve
Rosenstein and the late Bernard Siegel.
