Help Is On The Way
Friendship Recovery Homes & Coaching
Family Service, Friendship Circle
bouyed by federal dollars.
C
ongressman Gary Peters,
D-Bloomfield Township,
announced that Jewish
Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit
(JFS) will receive $200,000 to create a
new long-term fam-
ily caregiver service
center and that
Friendship Circle
will get $150,000 to
support its innova-
tive LifeTown facility
to teach life skills to
Rep. Peters
students who have
special needs.
The federal dollars
were in the fiscal year 2010 budget
approved last week.
"These respected organizations pro-
vide critical service to local families
and are leaders in creating innovative
new methods of providing those ser-
vices:' Peters said.
"I fought hard to earn support for
these investments in the House and I
am very thankful to Sens. Carl Levin
and Debbie Stabenow [of Michigan]
for advocating for them in the Senate.

I am very pleased we were able to
secure these resources to allow these
critical services to Oakland County
families to continue, even as the econ-
omy squeezes service organization
resources across the state."
Norman Keane, CEO of JFS, said,
"These dollars are critical for our
community continuum of services for
older adults and their families. Family
caregivers — adult children, spouses
and other relatives — are the back-
bone of caregiving for seniors and
often are feeling emotionally over-
whelmed, a result of having no idea
where to turn for assistance."
"In these difficult economic times,
the last thing parents who have chil-
dren with special needs need to hear
is that we can no longer afford to
provide a certain program:' said Rabbi
Levi Shemtov, executive director of
Friendship Circle, which is based in
West Bloomfield.
"Thanks to Congressman Peters,
we were able to actually expand our
program and provide much needed
support to these families." Fl
