Twenty-nine players are on the Player of the Decade ballot, including former Detroit Tigers Brad Ausmus and Gabe Kapler. The list features three Gold Glove winners (Mike Lieberthal, Kevin Youkilis and Ausmus), two Silver Slugger winners (Ryan Braun and Jason Marquis), and the first Jewish Rookie of the Year (Braun). Fans can vote at the www.jewishma- jorleaguers.org Web site or by e-mail at jewishmajorleaguers@rcn.com . A ballot also can be sent to Jewish Major Leaguers, 104 Greenlawn Ave., Newton Center, MA 02459. Voting ends Dec. 31. One voter who chooses the winning player will be able to present the award. Grey Cup Guru There are Jewish and Detroit Lions links to the winner of the Canadian Football League's 97th Grey Cup game, played last month in Saskatechewan. Montreal coach Marc Trestman, who led the Alouettes to a 29-28 victory over Saskatchewan's Roughriders, is Jewish. Trestman was a member of the Lions' coaching staff in 1997. He was hired by Coach Bobby Ross to be the teams quarterbacks coach and, thanks in large part to Trestman's guidance, QB Scott Mitchell passed for 3,484 yards, the sec- ond-highest total in team history. After one season with the Lions, he left the club to become the Arizona Cardinals' offensive coordinator. Please send sports news to sports®thejewishnews.com.
