Mah Jong Tourney Planned
Temple Israel's Sisterhood will hold is
annual mah jong tournament (compet-
itive and non-competitive) Thursday,
Jan. 28.
Registration will begin at 6 p.m. and
the games will begin at 6:45 p.m.
Participants should bring their own
mahj set. Door prizes and munchies
will be provided. Raffle tickets will be
sold that evening for $5 each or three
for $10.
The cost is $25 in advance; $30 at the
door if there is availability. All registra-
tions must be received by Thursday,
Jan. 21.
The event is limited to the first 200
people. Space is not guaranteed for
walk-in participants.
To register: send a check, payable to
Temple Israel Sisterhood, to Temple
Israel, 5725 Walnut Lake Road, West
Bloomfield, MI 48323. Indicate if you
wish to play competitive or non-com-
petitive mah jong. If you are with a
group, list their names and indicate
who will be East.

Bloomfield will host Professor Howard
N. Lupovitch for a three-part lecture
series based on his
new book, Jews and

Judaism in World
History, a one vol-
ume history of the
Jews from biblical
antiquity to the
present.
The series will

secutive Tuesday nights: 7:30-9 p.m.,
Jan. 5, 12 and 19. Each lecture will be
self-contained. Tuition is $40 for the
series or $15 per lecture. Advance reg-
istration is requested, but walk-ins will
be accommodated.
The lecture dates and topics are: Jan.
5: "The Beginnings of Judaism"; Jan. 12:
"Between Cross and Crescent"; and Jan.
19: "The Challenge of Modernity."
