Chanukah

Shaarey Zedek's
bash put everyone
in the holiday mood.

C

ongregation Shaarey Zedek of
Oakland County celebrated
Chanukah in a big way last weekend
with a new series of events.
On Saturday night, Dec. 12, adults gathered
for a Chanukah casino night. On Sunday,
about 900 people enjoyed a full afternoon of
holiday fun. Some of the activities included
a Maccabi joust, a gelt grabbers, an Iron
Chef competition, a teen battle of the bands,
jewelry making, a latke cookoff and a fashion
show.
The battle of the bands featured teens
from Motor City United Synagogue Youth
(MCUSY), ATID: Alliance of Teens in Detroit,
Frankel Jewish Academy of Metropolitan
Detroit and BBYO. The winners were Jessica
Grossman and Dan Hacker.
At the end of the afternoon, the explosive
finale was a giant pyrotechnic menorah
lighting and a performance by the Hillel
Day School Choir from the Farmington Hills
school.
All proceeds from the event go to educa-
tion and youth scholarships and to help
member families in crisis. I 1
