south. "This is an important discovery from an archaeological and historical standpoint." ADL Raps Egypt New York/JTA Political and civic leaders largely turn a blind eye to flourishing anti-Semitism and anti- Israel sentiment in Egypt, a new report said. The Anti-Defamation League's "Report on Anti-Semitism in the Egyptian Media," delivered last week to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and being distributed to members of the Obama administration and the U.S. Congress, says the Egyptian government regularly allows "alarm- ing manifestations of anti-Jewish attitudes." "President Mubarak's government continues to engage in business as usual when it comes to blatant expressions of anti-Semitism in the media',' said ADL National Director Abraham Foxman in a Dec. 7 state- ment."These alarming manifestations of anti-Jewish attitudes undermine the attempts by the U.S. administration to deliver on the promise of better rela- tions between the Muslim and non- Muslim worlds." The report cites Egyptian daily news- papers and television shows as routine offenders, portraying Jews "as stooped, hook-nosed and money-hungry, fight- ing for world domination." It says the Egyptian media regularly attempts to diminish the history of the Holocaust, compares Israeli leaders to Nazis, and claims Israelis and Americans rape Palestinian and Iraqi girls. In a letter to Mubarak accompa- nying the report, the ADL said the Egyptian government rarely censures anti-Semitic expression in the press, despite "numerous" meetings between ADL representatives and government officials, including Mubarak. — Priority Areas Map JerusalemJTA Israel's Cabinet approved a new map of priority areas, including millions of shekels for doz- ens of West Bank settlements. The vote Sunday was 21 votes to 5. The five votes against the plan were from Labor's five ministers. The ministers also decided to cre- ate an exceptions committee. The committee will have 30 days to decide whether to add Ashkelon to the list of communities and whether to exclude settlements outside of the security fence. Defense Minister Ehud Barak, head of the Labor party, told the — Cabinet that the national priorities map "disproportionately represents" residents of isolated settlements and gives a "prize" for right-wing extrem- ism, The Jerusalem Post reported. Some 91 out of 121 settlements are on the list, including several settle- ments in isolated West Bank areas beyond the security barrier, according to reports, representing about 120,000 people. In addition, the inclusion of Arab Israelis represented by the new map has risen from 8 percent to 40 percent. The map also reportedly does not include areas where Gush Katif evacuees from Gaza live. About 1.9 million people are includ- ed in the priority areas of the map. Prime Minister Netanyahu, at the beginning of the cabinet meeting, told the ministers that the new map was an attempt to draw the periphery closer and close the gaps that exist between the different areas of the country. "In the decision that will are submitting today, two million citi- zens are included:' Netanyahu said. "Approximately 40 percent of the State of Israel's non-Jewish citizens are included in this decision. e are provid- ing benefits in education, employment and infrastructures. We are also trying to provide tangible aid to those who bear the security burden every day. We will hold a discussion and decide; I am sure that we will make the best decision." The proposed map was widely released last week in advance of the Cabinet meeting. M COURT AUTHORIZED kliAlIKRUPTCY LI En9NRIPAPe9r,N MUST BE LIQUIDATED! The Answer Western intelligence officials and some Iranians have said Asgari defected, as he had first visited Saudi Arabia — Iran's foe — in an apparent effort to prepare his defection. - Allan Gale, Jewish Community Relations Council of Metropolitan Detroit @ December 17, 2009 / Jewish Renaissance Media laucchese, Ariat boots Stetson hats, \ Sterling \\ Native American Jewelry Voted by Hour Magazine BEST OF -------- HOUR 20411 Farmington Rd.
