JFS volunteers Melissa Lax and Nancy Solway, both of Bloomfield Hills 0 n Dec. 7, community mem- bers met at Jewish Family Service in West Bloomfield to wrap gifts that will be distributed to local families through the JFS Holiday Adopt-A-Family Program. This longtime JFS program anony- mously matches donors with families and individuals to brighten the holi- day season. This year, JFS had overwhelming positive community support, allowing the agency to provide holiday gifts to nearly 700 individuals, most of them Jewish. Because of the continuing economic troubles, the number of families has nearly doubled since last year. "People who haven't needed before, need now:' Lindsay Leder, director of volunteer services. More than 100 families and com- munity groups purchased gifts. JFS is grateful for the continued support of the local community, in all aspects of the Holiday Adopt-A- Family Program. Without the partici- pation of so many caring individuals, families, community groups and synagogues that have been so gener- ous with their time and resources, this annual program would not be possible. Next week, during Chanukah, the distribution of these gifts will affect the lives of hundreds of individuals, fami- lies and children in our community. 17 JAN 2nd & 3rd Detroit Opera House ALL-NEW 2010 PROGRAM I WITH LIVE ORCHESTRA Inspired by the rich spirit of an ancient culture, Shen Yun Performing Arts brings to life classical Chinese dance and music in a gloriously colorful and exhilarating show.
