Chabad Torah Center invites the
entire Jewish community to a public
menorah lighting for the whole family
on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the corner of
Maple and Orchard Lake roads, West
Bloomfield.
There will be a display of children's
menorahs. Jewish Music for Kids and
Moms will present a children's perfor-
mance at 5:30. The menorah lighting
will follow at 6. The free-of-charge
program includes light refreshments
and an appearance by Judah the
Maccabee, who will be happy to pose
for pictures with children of all ages.
Following the lighting, there will
be crafts, games and Sara's Deli food
for purchase at the Torah Center right
down Maple Road.
Attention all creative kids: Bring
your own handcrafted menorahs;
they will be displayed for public view-
ing. Bring a menorah and enter a
raffle to receive a prize.

A Lego Menorah
The Shul of West Bloomfield will host
a Chanukah event at 5 p.m. Sunday,
Dec. 13, at the synagogue. Teams will
build a 10-foot high Lego menorah.
Before Dec. 13, children will col-
lect donations of Legos and money to
purchase Duplo Legos, the type being
used to construct the menorah.
There will be prizes for the children
who collect the most Legos. Each
Hebrew school student of the Shul
will pack the Legos in gift boxes and
deliver them to needy children. An
artist at the Dec. 13 event to help the
children build the menorah.
Cost is $6 per person or $25 per
family. Music, games, food and ice
cream are included. Donations: $15
provides a half box of Legos; $30 a
full box; $60 two boxes. Other spon-
sorships available: menorah sponsor,
$360; dreidel sponsor, $180; both
include a family admission.

Adat Shalom Synagogue in
Farmington Hills is planning two
family events to celebrate Chanukah.
On Wednesday, Dec. 16, the Adat
Shalom Men's Club and Adat Shalom's
Beth Achim Religious School will co-
sponsor a Family Lathe Party begin-
ning at 6:15 p.m. Families will enjoy a
dairy supper with lathes and decorate
their own Chanukah cookies. Jeff the
Magician will provide entertainment
along with music and dancing by Joe
Cornell.
Guests can bring their own cha-
nukiah to light along with the Adat
Shalom clergy. Fees are $6 per person
paid by Dec. 13 and $8 per person at
the door.
Welcome Shabbat and celebrate the
completion of Chanukah on Friday,
Dec. 18. Chanukah and Shabbat
lighting will take place at 4:45 p.m.,
along with a Chanukah songfest.
(Bring your own chanukiah). A fam-
ily-friendly service will run from 5 to
5:30 p.m., followed by a dairy dinner.
The dinner cost is $10/adult, $5/child
(3 to 12), and no charge under 3
