UP IV 014/1 and gracious hospitality of Metro Detroit. Thirteen buses took attendees to The Henry Ford's Greenfield Village in Dearborn on Friday. On Shabbos afternoon, local community members hosted small home-hospitality gatherings for groups of 25-35 students each. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the live band and spirited dancing on Motzei Shabbos (Saturday night), which, for many, was a highlight of a weekend full of spirit and achdus (unity). Sunday's program included an address by Rabbi Paysach Krohn of New York City and Rebbitzen Esther Bakst of Southfield as well as Detroit's famous "mystery Chidon (Bible contest);' created in memory of the late Rabbi Sholom Goldstein, who 50 years ago spear- headed the creation of the first-ever Beth Jacob convention. Running concurrently with the students' program was a schedule of workshops, panels and round- table discussions for the attend- ing principals and teachers. They gained enormously from this pro- fessional development opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss pro- grams and gain new perspectives on topics of education. 1 www.jewishdetroir.urg/teersmissiun JULY 5 AUGUST 4 2009-2010 Grades 9-12 Eligible For information, contact Beth Margolin at 24B-542-1645 or email margolin@jfmd-org Mark Kowalskg, Chair • Suzan Curhan, Advisor DETROIT JEWISH NEWS iN qi p i pJewish Shulamis Rubinfeld is a principal of Beth Jacob School for Girls in Oak Federation of Metropolitan Detroit Park.
