C
aleb Kleinfeldt comes from
an artistic family. The 5-year-
old kindergartner at Franklin
Academy in Southfield and Aish
HaTorah Sunday School in Oak Park
just has to go down the basement in his
Huntington Woods home to find all the
art supplies he needs.
"Our house is like an art studio:' said
Caleb's mother, Nancy, who does crafts
and paints.
The basement has a designated area
for doing art, with lots of scraps, paints,
paper and other supplies. Older brother
Adin, 7, an honorable mention winner
in this year's Chanukah contest, decided
to do his project at home, rather than at
Yeshivat Akiva in Southfield where he
attends school, because of the wealth of
material available.
Caleb, son of Nancy and Nate
Kleinfeldt, worked for several days on his
menorah art. "He has trouble focusing:'
said Nancy, "but he kept coming back to
it. I was so impressed how he glued the
menorah and took his time" working on
the project.
While Caleb is among the youngest
winners of the Jewish News art contest,
he wasn't the youngest entrant this year.
That honor went to sister Grace, age 2,
who has been doing art projects since
she was nine months old.
Some 233 children entered this
year's Detroit Jewish News I Love Child
Chanukah Art Contest. Grand prize win-
ner Caleb Kelinfeldt had his artwork
reproduced on the cover of today's
Jewish News and will receive a $100
check.
Age-group winners Eden Rose Mintz,
age 4, of West Bloomfield, Blair Fields, 8,
of Franklin, and Kendall Coden, 12, of
West Bloomfield will each receive $18.
For those artists who wish to retrieve
their contest entries, they will be avail-
able at the Jewish News office through
Jan. 8. Entries from Yeshivat Akiva stu-
dents — more than two-thirds of all
entries — will be available at the school.
The winners shown on these pages
can also be seen at the Jewish News Web
site, JNonline.us .
