For Your Entertainment
Several Jewish artists have released new CDs/DVDs
this fall. Consider these for the music/video fans on
your list.
• The 2000 Year Old Man: The Complete History — The very funny comedy
routines of Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner have been remastered into a 50th-
anniversary CD and DVD set, with all five original albums, classic TV appear-
ances and a new interview with the Grammy-winning duo.
• Higher and Higher Hurricane Katrina inspired Neshama Carlebach to
record her latest CD, an album, with songs written primarily by her late father,
Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, from the perspective of a particular belief — from
brokenness comes strength. Here, Neshama records with the Green Pastures
Baptist Choir from the Bronx, N.Y., with a shared passion for faith and the
offering of hope and unification through music.

• Leonard Cohen Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 is a two disc package that

• Christmas In The Heart for the collector of everything Bob Dylan has
ever put out as well as a nice choice for interfaith families — features a nos-
talgic Robert Zimmerman in his first-ever Yuletide album; all of its current
and future U.S. royalties go to Feeding America, a hunger-relief charity. Could
another veteran music maker be far behind? Neil Diamond is out with A
Cherry, Cherry Christmas, a CD of mostly tunes from his previous Christmas
CDs, with a new (for him) Chanukah tune thrown in: a version of Adam
Sandler's "The Chanukah Song:'

• Sonic Boom is the first new album by carnival rockers Kiss in 11 years and
will be sold only through Wal-Mart in two versions: as a single disc and as a
three-disc set with re-recorded versions of the band's hits. Said Israeli-born
Gene Simmons: "The world's biggest retailer had better get ready for the hot-
test band in the world and hire more cashiers."
• For Your Entertainment, 2009 American Idol finalist Adam Lambert's
debut solo CD, is a pop/rock "fusion" album produced by some of the hottest
names in the business. Expect surprises. As Lambert told the Jewish News,
"The album is going to take what I did on Idol as a reference and launch it into
today."
• Dos Amantes, a new CD from Kat Parra & Sephardic Music Experience,
is a disc that fuses lead vocalist Parra's "two loves": the flavor of Sephardic
music with the sounds and colors of contemporary Latin jazz. "All these songs
embrace the basic theme of love Parra says. Due to be released on Jan. 12,
2010, on Jazzma Records, the CD is available now for Chanukah gift giving on
CD Baby.
• Love is the Answer a collection of jazz standards and the first studio
album by Barbra Streisand since 2005 — is produced by acclaimed jazz
vocalist Diana Krall and arranged by Johnny Mandel. Krall set Streisand's
vocals against both lush orchestral settings and intimate jazz-quartet arrange-
ments. The latter are available on a bonus disc in the deluxe version of Love.

that helped revolutionize musical Shabbat services, features 14 songs of entire-
