Advance Plumbing & Heating Supply Company is a
fourth generation, family-owned and operated busi-
ness, started by Harry Chernick in 1920. The compa-
ny still operates at its original Grand River address in
Detroit, today located across from the Motor City Ca-
sino. A second Oakland County location of Advance
Plumbing & Heating is in Walled Lake and offers an
outstanding 5,000-square-foot plumbing showroom.
"Our high-end, decorative showroom in Walled
Lake features the latest and greatest products the
plumbing industry has to offer," says company Vice
President Jeffrey Moss, the late Harry Chernick's
grandson. "We handle hundreds of extraordinary
manufacturers from around the world."
The showroom carries most of the respected
names in the plumbing industry including Delta,
Moen, Grohe, Elkay, Franke, Hansgrohe, and also
products from the more high-end, limited-distribu-
tion companies, such as Dornbracht, Julien, Phyl-
rich, Rohl, Toto, Jado, Sigma, Duravit and Ginger to
name a few. Consumers are invited to touch, see and
feel all the possibilities in plumbing for their home
as they wander through Advance Plumbing's unique
showroom of innovative bathroom displays, includ-
ing working whirlpool tubs, shower heads, steamers,
toilets and kitchen faucets.
Advance Plumbing's customers include the area's
finest plumbers, builders, interior decorators, and
kitchen and bath dealers. The showroom also servic-
es customers looking for outstanding products and
exceptional values.
Top professionals take pride in sending their cus-
tomers to Advance Plumbing to select their decora-
tive plumbing needs. "They know that we provide
good quality products and the area's best and larg-
est collection of decorative plumbing fixtures," Moss
says. Visitors can get expert advice from the com-
pany's "incredible, knowledgeable showroom sales
staff," including many longtime employees, he adds.
While Advance Plumbing's Walled Lake operation
is the showplace, Moss remains proud that at the
Grand River location, "we are putting the City of De-
troit back together. Our customer base includes the
Detroit Public Schools, Detroit Water Department,
Wayne State University, Motor City Casino and the
MGM Casino, to name a few."
Keeping it in the family, Jeffrey's father Ron Moss,
the company president, operates from the Detroit
location while Wendy Moss, Jeffrey's wife, helps out
in Walled Lake. All three of their sons have been in-
adverthement
volved in the business. They are Joshua, a student
at Michigan State University; Justin, a student at the
Frankel Jewish Academy, and Andrew, who attends
Cranbrook Schools.
The Moss families are members of Temple Israel
and Temple Beth El, while the extended families are
affiliated with Cong. B'nai Moshe.
This year, Advance Plumbing & Heating Supply
Company is celebrating its 90th anniversary. "We
are exceptionally proud of this milestone and even
more proud of our involvement in this community,"
Moss says, noting that Advance has assisted Habitat
for Humanity, JARC, DARE and many other local or-
ganizations.
