Obituaries

LAURA BENESON, 82, of Southfield,
died Nov. 13, 2009.
She is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, David and Marci
Beneson of Southfield; daughters and
sons-in-law, Carol and Joab Shevach
of Southfield, Wendy and Edward
Goldman of Southfield; sister-in-law,
Alice Berlin; grandchildren, Aubrey
and Steffie Beneson, Jeana and Gadi
Rivkin, Vicki Beneson, Fred and Orlit
Goldman, Deborah Goldman, Jason
Shevach, Elana and Jim Walker; great-
grandchildren, Zevi, Rachel, Tiferet,
Aviva, Itiel.
Mrs. Beneson was the beloved wife
of the late Aubrey Beneson; loving sis-
ter of the late Marvin Berlin.

BIENER, 99, of West
Bloomfield, died
Nov. 4, 2009.
He was a content
and happy man — a
person of integrity,
grace and charm.
Biener
He always said "each
day is a blessing." In
fact, it was those who knew him that
were blessed. Blessed by his uncon-
ditional love, his upbeat take on life,
his love of animals, the encourage-
ment he gave unfailingly, his wit, his
true appreciation and love of women,
the songs he sang, including "Go To
Sleep My Little Buckaroo;' "Among
My Souvenirs,""I Did It My Way:'
"Side By Side," "Smile," and "When
Irish Eyes Are Smiling" complete with
accent, and his own version of a rak-
ish sailor's song; his recitations of
Patrick Henry's speech and Bryant's
"Thanatopsis" and the scrabble he
played, never cheating and still most
times winning.
Mr. Biener is survived by his ador-
ing children, Allyn Ravitz of Wolverine
Lake and Marilyn Gallant of Aspen,
Colo.; sons-in law, Charles R. Schmitte
Jr. and Melvin Gallant; grandchildren,
Jason Ravitz (and Melissa Dworkin),
Jessica Ravitz, Elizabeth Eaman,
Michael Gordon (and Sara), Julie
Cohen (and Daniel); great-grandchil-
dren, nieces, nephews, other family
members and the many friends he
made in Michigan, especially those

from the Meer Apartments, JCare
and Visiting Nurses Association, who
helped him live "independently" dur-
ing his last few years.
He was the husband of the late
Minnia.
Interment in Florida. Contributions
may be made to Jewish Family
Services, the ASPCA, Best Friends
Animal Society, the Humane Society
or a charity of one's choice.

IDA ELLENSON, 99, of Southfield,
died Nov. 11, 2009.
She is survived by her daughter and
son-in-law, Marsha and Fred Gordon
of Bloomfield Hills; grandchildren,
Minde and Robert Korman, Stephen
and Debbie Gordon, Peter and Ambre
Ellenson, Franklin Ellenson; great-
grandchildren, Joey and Matthew
Korman, Rachel, Max and Eli Gordon,
Isaac and Oliver Ellenson, Jacob and
Leo Ellenson; nieces, nephews; care-
giver, JoeAnn Gipson; caregivers and
staff of the Heritage of Southfield;
daughter-in-law, Arlene Ellenson.
Mrs. Ellenson was the beloved wife
of the late Albert Ellenson; loving
mother of the late Ervin J. Ellenson.
Interment at Adat Shalom

CHARLES ISADORE GOLDSTEIN,
93, of Matthews, N. C., died Nov. 8,
2009.
Born in New York City, he served
with the U.S. Army during World
War II and was discharged with the
rank of corporal. Prior to moving to
Charlotte, N. C., in 2003, Mr. Goldstein
had resided most of his life in the
Detroit area, where he had been a
manager at Art's Plumbing, a volun-
teer at the Veterans Hospital, a mem-
ber of the B'nai B'rith, past president
of the B'nai B'rith Bowling League
and a member at Temple Beth El.
He is survived by his sons and
daughters-in-law, Richard and Denise
Gold of Laguna Beach, Calif., Michael
and Paula Goldstein of Novi; former
daughter-in-law, Gayle and William
(B.J.) Creasman of Matthews; six
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchil-
dren.
Mr. Goldstein was preceded in
death by his wife, Ida, who passed in
1977, and his son, Martin Gold, who
passed in 1982.
