M

itchell "Mickey" Ketai, 86,
of Bloomfield Hills, died
Nov. 15, 2009.
Doggedly young at heart despite
advancing years, he succumbed to
the combined burdens of old age at
his home. A native Detroiter, Mr. Ketai
first left home to serve in the U.S.
Army during World War II, where he
proved a quick study of
the French language. His
aptitude earned him a
position as purchasing
agent for the Army and
left him with a com-
mand of French that still
impressed native speak-
ers half a century later.
He returned to the U.S.
Mickey Keta
to attend the University
of Michigan, where he
received a degree in architectural engi-
neering in 1950. His time in Ann Arbor
left him a Maize and Blue convert for
the rest of his life. Sometime after his
80th birthday he held tickets to a home
football game that fell on the Jewish
High Holidays. "You know, I don't have
many years left: He confided, "I sure

brief stint in California returned
to reside in Michigan, where his
two children, Loren and Lisa, were
born. He practiced architecture and
later construction management in
the Detroit area until the end of his
career at which time he remained an
emeritus member of the American
Institute of Architects (AIA).

Although thoughts of Gloria were

life had brought him, he decided
to establish a scholarship to assist
less fortunate students
at the University of
Michigan School of
Architecture. The Ketai
Family Scholarship was
established to aid stu-
dents from less privi-
leged socio-economic
backgrounds who could
contribute to the diver-
sity of the college.

My family and I are deeply indebted
To this wonderful community
For all of your prayers, tributes, and tzedakah
Offered in hopes of my recovery.
Let me tell all of you it worked!
I am thrilled to be back at work
And so happy to be enjoying life with my family.
May G-d grant our entire community
The great blessing of good health
And only endless reasons to celebrate.

Our sincerest thank you.
