JN

Sophie Sklar, with her eco-friendly bags and water bottles

I
I

Sara Smoler
Teen2Teen Staff Writer

S

ophie Sklar, a seventh-grader
at Cranbrook Kingswood in
Bloomfield Hills, has decided
to save the world. One bag and bottle
at a time, she plans to help raise aware-
ness for the environment and donate
her funds to the Wig Bank for cancer
patients at Henry Ford West Bloomfield
Hospital. Sophie is the daughter
of Valerie and Jim Sklar of West
Bloomfield. She has a brother, Sam, 14.

• What is your mitzvah project all
about?

"I really wanted to do something
with recycling because I am very
environmental. I am the person who
would honestly go and pick up trash
and recycle it. I am very eco-friendly

and know that just by doing simple
things, like turning the lights off and
using re-useable bottles and bags, that
it can make a difference and help save
our world. I also wanted to help those
in need at the Wig Bank.
The [canvas] bags and [stainless
steel] bottles that I created are eco-
friendly, and will help stop people
from using plastic bottles and bags.
I really do believe that every bag and
bottle that can be re-used instead of
thrown away will make the world a
better environmental place.
The charity I started is called
Recycle with Sophie. My mom, who
works with printing and promoting
items, helped me set this up. I will be
selling these products online at my
Web site, www.recyclewithsophie.com .
The proceeds will go directly towards
