he Cancer Thrivers Network
for Jewish Women recently
hosted a Todah Rabah (Thank
You Very Much) event for friends
and supporters at the Janice Charach
Gallery at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield.
About 90 people attended the
program, which featured wine and
cheese, entertainment by harpist Cheri
Whalen and a presentation by Linda
Diaz, who discussed "The Invaluable
Gift of Friendship and Support."
Guests had the chance to view "The
Bra Show" exhibit at the gallery, which
features artistic bras, designed by

mier of a new video about the Cancer
Thrivers produced by Rita Sitron.
The Cancer Thrivers Network was
founded by Patti Nemer, Michelle
Passon and Sandy Schwartz. It wel-
comes women diagnosed with any
kind of cancer at any time in their
lives. Its mission is to empower Jewish
women through activities, friendship,
resources, education and humor. For

ewish Senior Life of
Metropolitan Detroit is
seeking nominations for its
Eight Over Eighty-The Tikkun Olam
Award honoring eight senior adults,
80 or older, who have dedicated their
time and talents to the community.
The intent is to recognize nominees
for their lifetime achievements.
The awards brunch will be at held at
11 a.m. Sunday, May 16, at the Jewish
Community Center in West Bloomfield.
Nominees should:
• Be at least 80 years old.
• Have been a longstanding volun-
teer in the community
• Be active and volunteering today.
• Be dedicated to maintaining
strong Jewish values.
• Be an inspiring leader or mentor
in the community.
Honorees will be inducted into the
Senior Adult Jewish Hall of Fame at
the community brunch, which coin-
cides with Older Americans Month.

Event proceeds go to the Jewish
Senior Life Quality of Life Fund, which
enriches the lives of JSL residents.
To nominate someone, write or
send an e-mail to Jewish Senior Life
describing the worthiness of the nom-
inee. Include (as applicable): name
and age of nominee; duration of vol-
unteer service; involvement in Jewish
organizations and causes; leadership
positions held; current accomplish-
ments; letters and newspaper articles
supporting nominee's accomplish-
ments; explain how the nominee's
longstanding activities exemplify a
commitment to the Jewish value of
tikkun olam [repair of the world].
Nominations are due by Jan. 18. Mail
